MONUMENTAL ENSEMBLE OF THE SANT PERE CHURCHES

This is an exceptional piece of Catalonian historical and artistic heritage. Located in the heart of the Vallparadís Park, the Sant Pere Ensemble forms an oasis of tranquillity in the midst of the modern city.

The ensemble of three churches, the only one of its kind in Catalonia, offers a harmonious combination of diverse architectural styles and periods: pre-Romanesque, Romanesque, Gothic and Baroque. It has undergone significant modifications throughout its history, despite which it has maintained its character.

As the See of the Ègara Bishopric since the 5th Century and an important administrative centre for the Visigothic Church, the Council of Ègara was held here in 615. A picturesque 17th century bridge joins the compound with the medieval village and historic city centre.

The ensemble has a distribution and details which reveal certain Byzantine and oriental inspiration.

The Sant Pere Churches are the most important parts of Terrassa's artistics and historical heritage. They receive 15.000 annual visitors.
